As part of
Parckdesign Brussels 2012, Ooze, in collaboration with Marjetica Potrč created 'Source de Friche', which produces drinking-quality water from the polluted pool of accumulated rainwater and ground water on a former industrial site.
The water collects naturally in an existing depression on the site, which was contaminated during its previous use by the Shell oil company. New helophyte plants are added to alongside those already established, to enhance the water cleaning process. The purified water is stored in an underground water container, where it is further cleaned with a carbon filter. It is pumped to the surface through a simple water pipe for visitors to drink. The project takes visitors of the site on a journey of discovery to a wetland in an urban wasteland. Theirs is a solitary and personal experience.
